I'm more concerned with the browser manufacturers role in this whole thing, being the gatekeepers by blocking the plugin and install. I'm sure someone would have archives of the release versions, even if Adobe didn't want to host them. And if browsers just left it be, but for some reason, all the tech companies banded together to take it down, and actively force the removal and make it not work any longer.

You are correct, in that this wouldn't be that big of deal if Adobe just left the last major stable release available to install (with notices that it's discontinued and no longer updated/secure). In addition, Adobe will be removing all traces from their downloads and archives, so you can't install it new, even if you could, the browsers will block it. Everything I've heard is that Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and all other major browsers that supported flash player are going to be actively forcing the removal of the flash player plug-in from the browser. Hence it just means leaving a browser without any updates.įrom what I understand, it IS disappearing. So the only difference is that it starts to become out of date, we sill end up with the annoying message at the top of the browser and doesn't receive any more security patches etc etc. its not just being supported as from Dec 20. The new tool that converts web XPanel to exe XPanel won't work if the user's account is locked down by IT to prevent software installs. Many users in the commercial environment don't have Admin rights on their PC's, or have them locked down and can't install unauthorized software (especially not on the fly). Not necessarily for many in the commercial realm. The problem with CH5, is even if they got the browser based version working tomorrow, most of our current projects in the pipeline (and the forseable future) are still going to use Smart Graphics, which means the 2 technologies are not compatible with each other. CH5 is still too new to rely on, even those of us who did training on it, and are trying to deep dive in it, most likely still aren't deploying CH5 projects in production yet (I may be wrong, but I'm guessing if there are, they are outliers). For most of us, getting fixes for loosing the web based version of Smart Graphics is a higher priority. Since we're half way through Nov already, I'm going to go out on a limb, and say "probably not". Does anyone have a sense of whether HTML5-based browser control is really going to happen in 2020?
